Erste QuantumFrontiers MasterClass startet in Hannover

QuantumFrontiers MasterClass set to begin in Hannover April 2020

Scientists in the QuantumFrontiers Cluster of Excellence are researching current questions and applications in quantum- and nanometrology. Their individual research topics range from relativistic geodesy, gravitational wave astronomy and nanophotonics to atomic interferometry; all of these topics lie outside the subject matter covered in highschool curriculum. The QuantumFrontiers MasterClasses are designed to change this and make these topics accessible to highschool students.  

MasterClasses are one-day workshops for highschool students, which introduce them to cutting-edge research topics based on skills already acquired in school. Not only can students experiment and learn about new areas of physics, but they also gain insight into the scientific world through contact with researchers.

The first MasterClass, entitled "Gravitational Wave Interferometry", will take place in Hannover starting in April 2020 and will deal with general relativity and the use of interferometry for gravitational wave detection. After a theoretical lesson, students can experiment independently with a Michelson interferometer and also have the opportunity to visit laboratories and to talk to scientists at different career levels.

Teachers Registration @ quantumfrontiers.de/masterclasses: Teachers can register for the first MasterClass in Hanover, with a range of possible dates.

Student Registration @ quantumfrontiers.de/masterclasses: Students in grade 11 or higher can register individually for a MasterClass on Gravitational Wave Interferometry during the Easter holidays. It takes place on 07.04.20 from 09:00 to 15:00 at the Institute of Gravitational Physics of the Leibniz University of Hannover.
