On the hunt for Majorana quasiparticles: Professor Patrik Recher.

For almost 100 years, Majorana fermions have been considered mathematically possible but experimentally invisible. However, there seem to be quasiparticles in superconductors that have the properties of Majorana fermions. Discovering these Majorana quasiparticles (MQPs) would not only mean finding another piece of the puzzle for understanding nature. MQPs are theoretically almost perfect qubits, the basic elements of a quantum computer. In the framework of the Cluster of Excellence QuantumFrontiers, researchers at the Technical University of Braunschweig are calculating methods to be able to shape the invisible in experiments.
