At the end of April, around 250 members of the Cluster of Excellence QuantumFrontiers gathered in Hanover for their two-day annual conference – held at a new venue for the first time.

The focus was on scientific exchange across the entire spectrum of the cluster. Representatives from all research areas and topical groups presented current research achievements in short talks; two poster sessions provided additional opportunities for in-depth discussion. Invited keynote speakers Pei-Wen Li (National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Taiwan) and Tim Langen (Institute of Atomic Physics, Vienna University of Technology) offered insights into their research.

Being the first annual meeting of the second funding period, the cluster welcomed many new members. Getting to know one another and catching up with old acquaintances characterised the atmosphere alongside the specialist presentations. The programme was complemented by a panel discussion on issues surrounding QuantumFrontiers, as well as a lecture and subsequent discussion on the mechanisms of male-dominated networks and structures – such as the scientific system.

An expert jury awarded prizes for the best posters on both days. The prize winners:

Day 1
1.    Fritz von Gierke
2.    Gina Kleinsteinberg und Nina Fletling
3.    Julian Kassmann

Day 2
