The joint research project "Geodesy and Climate Research - Interactions between the Carbon and Water Cycle" of the University of Bremen, Leibniz University Hannover and the DLR Institute for Satellite Geodesy and Inertial Sensing has been granted the Science Award of Northern Germany 2020. The prize money is 125,000 euros.

The project is based on the existing cooperation between the project partners, e.g. in QuantumFrontiers, and aims to contribute to improving climate predictions. To this end, satellite data and modelling will be used to investigate how methane emissions in wetlands and the carbon dioxide uptake of plants depend on changing water levels.
