Steffen Schön appointed new President of the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy

Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt has appointed Prof. Dr Steffen Schön as the new President of the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (Bundesamt für Kartographie und Geodäsie, BKG). Steffen Schön has been Professor of Positioning and Navigation at the Institute of Geodesy at Leibniz University Hannover since 2006. He was also Vice Dean of the QUEST Leibniz Research School and a member of the QuantumFrontiers Cluster of Excellence since the beginning of its first funding period.

The Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) is the national authority for geodesy and geoinformation within the remit of the Federal Ministry of the Interior. It is based in Frankfurt am Main. It provides a reliable geodetic reference frame and nationwide geodata, operates high-precision measurement infrastructures for this purpose, supplies standardised geo-web services and provides technical advice to the federal government and partners.
