Solidarity with Intent: How Scientists Can Actively Counter Bias in Their Own Environment

Creating fair and inclusive work environments doesn’t happen by accident or by simply valuing diversity. Real change begins when those with influence and privilege choose to act in solidarity with colleagues who are often overlooked or marginalized. This talk explores what it means to be an active ally in academic and scientific environments: recognizing microaggressions, confronting implicit bias, and supporting others without speaking over them. How can white scientists use their position to dismantle racial bias? How can cis people support trans colleagues? How can we support women and other genders? And how do we respond to discrimination that hides in plain sight? Allyship is not about being perfect, it’s about being present, intentional, and willing to act. It takes effort, but it’s worth it. Join Floria Moghimi to reflect, rethink and take the next step toward meaningful change in your own environment.
