Building Bridges in Science as a Leader: Practice Empathy, Listen Actively and Become an Ally
Two half days - each from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. - both need to be attended for the full workshop!
Do you want to better understand others and support those who are struggling? In diverse research environments, interpersonal communication and allyship are key to building strong, inclusive teams.
This hands-on workshop equips you with research-based strategies to foster empathy, active listening, and effective allyship. You will learn to:
-
Communicate with empathy and adapt to diverse (including neurodiverse) styles
-
Recognise verbal and non-verbal cues
-
Use I- and We-statements to navigate conflicts
-
Understand intersectionality, minority experiences in science, and stereotype threat
-
Reflect on biases, privileges, and microaggressions
By the end, you will be able to communicate more effectively and contribute to a research culture where everyone feels valued and empowered.
