This series of lectures consists of three parts and covers the following topics:

  • The importance of measurement and knowledge in quantum research
  • Responsibility arising from new epistemic possibilities
  • Introduction to dual-use perspectives
  • Areas of tension: Open Science, security, commercialisation
  • Societal implications of basic research
  • Responsibility within research consortia
  • Introduction to ethical reflection frameworks
  • Structured reflection on one’s own research projects
  • Discussion of specific case studies

Referent/Referentin

Dr. Johann Fiedler is a technology ethicist and technology consultant. He earned his doctorate at RWTH Aachen University in the field of technology and environmental ethics, focusing on climate modification strategies and the boundaries between theology, natural science, and engineering. Dr. Fiedler taught as a lecturer in engineering ethics, business ethics, and project management in development cooperation at RWTH University and at the Global Water and Climate Adaptation Center (ABCD) in collaboration with the AIT Bangkok, the IIT Madras, and TU Dresden, as well as through the BRIDGE network with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.
