Discrimination is always linked to power - Academia is a vulnerable system regarding an abuse of power.

Power abuse is not a single-issue dynamic. Marginalized people disproportionately become targets of harassment, sexual and otherwise, and not by accident.
This lecture will explore the structures of power in academic institutions using an intersectional lens. Using the "Red Flag System", participants are going to learn about the dimensions that constitute power abuse and get answers to the following questions:
How and where does power abuse start, and how do various discriminatory dynamics come into play when people become targets? How can this particular social environment enable power abuse? How do victims' reactions indicate power abusive dynamics? And what can bystanders do when they encounter situations of harassment around them? Through a tailored case study, participants will learn to identify specific patterns and warning signs in the context of the university.

The online talk with discussion by Sara Hassan It's not that grey: Structures of Power in Academia takes place on 2 April 2024 at 11 a.m.  Please take this 90 min to learn something about the structures you contribute to and work in.
