Gudrun Wanner receives the Beate Naroska Junior Guest Professorship 2022 for her outstanding research in Gravitational Physics, as well as for her active involvement in creating equal opportunities for women in physics.

With the Beate Naroska Guest Professorships, the Cluster of Excellence Quantum Universe at the University of Hamburg since 2020 honours the scientific excellence of international female scientists and their commitment to gender equality. The Cluster of Excellence awards each a senior and a junior guest professorship every year, endowed with 7,500 and 5,000 euros respectively. The Beate Naroska Senior Guest Professorship 2022 is awarded to Professor Claudia de Rham from Imperial College in London. The ceremony takes place on 14 February at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg.

In QuantumFrontiers, Gudrun Wanner is Independent Group Leader for optical simulations and works on the space-based gravitational wave detector LISA. With her research, she helps to achieve accuracy in the picometre range. In the Collaborative Research Centre TerraQ, she is head of the research project Optical Design Methods for Low-Noise Interferometry.

Gudrun Wanner: “I am honoured to have been selected as a recipient of the Beate Naroska Guest Professorship. I am thankful for this opportunity to scientifically exchange with colleagues in the various fields involved in Quantum Universe. With my background in the LISA mission, I am naturally particularly interested in the work on gravitational waves happening within Quantum Universe. Additionally, I look forward to learning more about the dark matter research within the cluster, a topic addressed from completely different angles in particle physics and in gravitational wave science.”
