In QuantumFrontiers MasterClasses, students learn how their classroom topics relate to current research. They experiment, learn about new areas of physics and get an insight into science. For two special MasterClasses in August, all places were double booked. 24 students used the summer holidays for a trip into microgravity and quantum computing.

In the first course, on 15 August, the students outsmarted gravity. After an introduction to gravity and weightlessness, the students experimented with a drop capsule at the Einstein elevator.

The second course on 16 August was dedicated to quantum cryptography and quantum computers. What sounds like science fiction at first, the students learned about scientifically. They were introduced to quantum cryptography protocols, which they were not only able to carry out themselves on a small scale, but were also able to see on a large scale afterwards in the laboratory of Professor Fei Ding, Institute of Solid State Physics.

Next holiday MasterClasses in autumn

After the great demand during the summer holidays, QuantumFrontiers is offering two more courses during the autumn holidays, with places going preferentially to those who could not get a spot during the summer. Registration is available on the website at:
