QuantumFrontiers Newsletter #16 (Dec 2023)

Successfully integrated qubit control in quantum computers
Researchers at the TU Braunschweig have developed a control chip that reaches more qubits with fewer wires and therefore less heat. The success of the new control unit is being utilised within the quantum computer of the Quantum Valley Lower Saxony (QVLS).

Parliamentary Evening in Berlin with research by QuantumFrontiers
At the event leading research institutions in the field of mobility such as the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and Technische Universität Braunschweig, gave an insight into their research and painted a picture of the future of digital and autonomous mobility.

Save the Date: QuantumFrontiers Days 2024
Mark your calendar right now: The next QuantumFrontiers Days will take place on 27 and 28 May 2024.

MAIUS-2 sounding rocket launched
On December 2nd at 8.30 CET, an interdisciplinary research group including Leibniz University Hannover and researchers from the Cluster of Excellence QuantumFrontiers successfully launched the MAIUS-2 sounding rocket into space from the European Space and Sounding Rocket Range near Kiruna (Sweden). During the flight, the team had about five and a half minutes to conduct experiments under microgravity conditions before the rocket's scheduled return to Earth.

European Quantum Technologies Conference 2023
QuantumFrontiers co-hosted Europe's quantum event of the year that brought the leaders in quantum technologies from science, business and politics to Hannover. From 16 to 20 October, over 700 international participants gathered for the event, transforming the region into Europe's quantum hotspot.

Record attendance at the Nacht, die Wissen schafft
On November 4, Leibniz Universität Hannover opened its doors from 6 p.m. to midnight and invited citizens from the city and region to explore science. Researchers and teachers from all faculties offered hands-on research, interactive activities and entertainment.

"I have had a phenomenal time!"
Supported by QuantumFrontiers and the DAADs RISE Germany programme, Theo Andrews from Ireland spent three months at TU Braunschweig to conduct research in the field of quantum physics.

Michèle Heurs and Stefanie Kroker appointed as Fellows of the Max Planck School of Photonics
Research funding at the highest level: The Max Planck School of Photonics (MPSP) is one of three research training groups with which the Max Planck Society promotes young science talents with a Germany-wide network. QuantumFrontiers professors Michèle Heurs (LUH) and Stefanie Kroker (TU Braunschweig) have now been accepted into this network as fellows. As leading scientists in their field, the professors will now supervise doctoral students at the MPSP.
