Spin and Transport Model

Understanding transport, dynamics and spin physics in many-body quantum systems from solid-state devices to cold atoms, molecules and trapped ions.

Contributions to QuantumFrontiers

  • This Topical Group focuses on the properties of many-body quantum systems, and especially their dynamics, as well as on its possible applications, in particular in the context of quantum simulations.
  • Focusing on different possible implementations (polar lattice gases, ion Coulomb crystals, Twisted-bilayer lattices) we are particularly interested in understanding challenging questions, in particular out-of-equilibrium many-body dynamics.
  • We establish new concrete scientific collaborations between groups in PTB, TUBS, and LUH.

Collaborative Innovation

  • Quantum many-body dynamics: non-ergodicity, many-body localization, quantum scars (Karrasch TUBS, Osborne, Santos LUH)
  • Quantum simulation of extended lattice models using polar molecules in optical lattices: spin models, interaction-induced localization (S. Ospelkaus, Santos LUH)
  • Transport in ion Coulomb crystals (Mehlstäubler PTB, Santos LUH)
  • Transport in Twisted-Bilayer-like optical lattices, localization in quasi-crystal geometries, analogies with twisted-bilayer-graphene (Recher TUBS, Santos LUH)
  • Simulation of many-body dynamics in NISQ devices: error mitigation strategies, implementation in QVLS devices (Osborne, Santos LUH)
